a mission with a vision

Microbiology is emerging as the key biological science. This area is concerned with the physiology, biochemistry, molecular biology, ecology, biotechnology and uses of bacteria, fungi and viruses. Microorganisms provide the models used in molecular biology for research. This research at the molecular level has provided, and continues to provide, the answers to numerous fundamental questions in quality control and assessment of food and pharmaceutical products, genetics, metabolism and cell forms and functions. There are growing recognitions of the potential of microorganisms in many applied areas. The department of Microbiology started its journey from the inception of Primeasia University in 2003 as a core subject. Swarming with 700 students, this is the largest Microbiology departments in our country. Currently 17 qualified and extraordinary full time faculty members are working here. Highly skilled six faculty members obtained PhD degrees and three of them earned post-doctoral degree from renowned Universities in USA, Australia, Japan, South Korea and Malaysia.

The department offers a four-year Bachelor of Science (Honours) [B.Sc. (Hons.)] program in Microbiology at the undergraduate level. This program extends for 12 semesters and comprises a total of 149 credits, with a view to producing highly skilled value added graduates in application-oriented microbiological field.

The Department also offers one-year Masters of Science [M.S] course in Microbiology. A 4-year B.Sc. degree in Biological Sciences/Biomedical Sciences, and Medical graduates are required as an entry qualification for students intending to study for MS degree; students will take a total of 36 credits for the MS degree.

The students get to study in spacious classrooms well equipped with multimedia. There are four laboratories in the department endowed with modern amenities to provide practical knowledge to students alongside of theoretical knowledge.

The Department will provide all laboratory facilities to the students and students could visit to other research laboratories like ICDDRB, BIRDEM, BCSIR, IPH, Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission, Square Hospital, Apollo Hospital etc. for carrying out their research works.

The students get to learn here in an interactive manner with the study materials that are updated with time. Students have to submit assignments, present posters and power-point presentations which are integral part of each course.

The students studying in their final year in B.Sc. carry out research projects and the MS students complete their thesis work under the supervision of ours qualified faculty members. Each year a number of scientific articles are published in national and international journals.p>
